Go Gophers!

With 23 days until the Gophers kick off against UNLV, Dom Barber represents today's countdown number. The safety continued a family tradition by lettering as a true freshman, and grew into one of the team's best players as his career progressed.

Like his father, Marion Barber Jr., and his brother, Marion III, Dom Barber earned a varsity 'M' in his first year as a Golden Gopher. Unlike them, he played safety instead of running back. He played in 21 games his first two years, but did not start until 2006.

Barber then started 12 of 13 games and led the team with four interceptions as a junior. He made 74 tackles, broke up four passes, forced two fumbles and recovered one. Barber was named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten.

He stepped it up even more as a senior. A leader of the Gopher defense, Barber tallied a team-best 100 tackles (71 solo) and broke up eight passes in 2007. He added a 46-yard fumble return for a touchdown against Michigan.

Barber was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team, and received the team's Bronko Nagurski (MVP) and Carl Eller (outstanding defensive player) Awards. The Houston Texans drafted him in 2008, and he played in 25 games during the first two of his four years with the squad.

Hint: Look for Barber's older brother later in the countdown!
