Today, the Buffalo Sabres tweeted that former Gopher Thomas Vanek will skate for Austria at the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championships next month in Europe. The tournament, which runs May 3-19 in Helsinski, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden, now features three former Gophers as Nick Bjugstad and Erik Johnson will skate for the U.S. Men's National Team.
While the Sabres had a disappointing end to the 2012-13 campaign, Vanek thrived as the team's leader in points (41) and goals (20, 10th in the NHL this season) in the 38-game season. The forward also finished tied for first on the team in assists with 21.
