NHL: Kessel, Wheeler Combine for Four Goals in Winnipeg

| No TrackBacks
Former Gophers Phil Kessel and Blake Wheeler accounted for four of the seven goals scored in last night's 5-2 win for the Winnipeg Jets over the Toronto Maple Leafs. The pair of forwards notched two goals apiece starting with this unique, stick-breaking shot by Kessel that tied the game at 1-1 just 38 seconds into the second period.

Wheeler didn't wait long after his fellow Gopher to score his own strange goal -- lighting the lamp 25 seconds later to claim a 2-1 lead for the Jets.

Winnipeg's second leading scorer this year added his 10th goal of the year later went on to make it 5-1 Jets at 12:53 of the third period.

Kessel closed out the night with this put back for his ninth goal of the season and 25th point -- tying the former Gopher for Toronto's scoring lead.

Noteworthy

-Thomas Vanek scored the game winner in Toronto's 3-1 win over the New York Rangers with a very Thomas Vanek-esque goal.
