Bolstered by a sweep of then-No. 16 Michigan State over the weekend, the Gophers earned No. 1 rankings on Monday in both the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and polls.

The Gophers maintain their top ranking in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll after earning 30 of a possible 32 first-place votes. North Dakota and Boston College each garner a first-place vote, they rank second and third respectively in this week's poll. Rounding out the top five are Miami University at four and Cornell at five.

Minnesota took over the top spot in the Poll after last week's No. 1 squad, Boston College, faltered at Northeastern on Saturday. Of the possible 50 first-place votes, the Gophers take home 46. The only other teams to collect a first-place vote are North Dakota, Boston College, and Union. Joining the Gophers in the top five are North Dakota, Boston College, Miami University, and Michigan.

The Gophers got off to quick starts in both games this weekend en route to 5-1 and 7-1 victories over Michigan State. Seventeen skaters posted a point for Minnesota on the weekend, led by Zach Budish with four assists. The Gophers also received a pair of goals each from Erik Haula, Nick Bjugstad, and Ben Marshall versus the Spartans. Goalies Michael Shibrowski and Adam Wilcox each started a game and recorded their first victory as Gophers.
