Get to Know Kayla Hirt and Micaëlla Riché

| No TrackBacks recently sat down with freshman Kayla Hirt and sophomore Micaëlla Riché to learn a little bit more about why they chose to play basketball at Minnesota and some of their interests off of the court.

"Hi I'm Kayla Hirt from Bemidji, Minnesota. I'm a freshman guard"

Why did you choose to come to the U?
I am very close with my family and I really like the atmosphere here. I really love the fans and I love the feeling of walking into the gym and seeing all of the fans get really excited. I also really like the coaches and I like what Minnesota has brought so far and I hope to win a National Championship here."

What forced you to miss the 2011-12 season?
"I tore my ACL in practice. I was devastated. It's a repeat (injury), so it's definitely heartbreaking for me, because I just didn't want to go through it again. So, now I get to learn all of the plays, settle and get all of the freshman things under my belt."

One thing you are known for?
"If anyone knows me, they know that my favorite thing to buy is shoes. I have a lot of shoes. I have a lot of high-tops. I own about 20, 30, 40 (pairs) - I don't know, somewhere around there."

"Hi I'm Micaëlla Riché. I'm a sophomore forward from Ottawa, Ontario."

Why did you choose to come to the U?
"I chose to come to Minnesota all the way from home because I visited and everything was amazing, the team, the facilities, the program. It all fit really well."

What are you studying at the U?
"My major is Kinesiology, so I'd like to be a strength and conditioning coach and kick athletes butts, kind of like (Sara Wiley) does to us."

How would you describe your style?
"My personal style would best be described...I don't know. I'm comfortable. I like to wear leggings. I like to wear grandpa sweaters. I like to wear leggings and leggings and leggings.

One thing you miss about home?
"You guys have Gyros and they're kind of like Shawarmas in Canada. Shawarmas are basically chicken or beef in a wrap and it's like Arabic food and it's really good in Canada, but the one I got here was not good."
