Minnesota - Iowa Preview: Game Time with Grimm

The Gopher Radio Network's Mike Grimm gives us five things to watch (and listen) for in Saturday's game at home against Iowa:

1. FAST START: The Gophers have struggled out of the gate this season, having been outscored in the first half of their seven games by a count of 181-to-47. That's 47 first half points in 14 quarters of football. In fact, in the three Big Ten games so far, the opposition is outscoring the Gophers 103-to-3. If Minnesota wants any chance to win it will need to have something positive happen early in the game.

2. IT IS BETTER TO TAKETH THAN TO GIVETH: Minnesota has not forced a single turnover in three Big Ten Conference games. The Gophers have coughed it up six times. That is not a good formula. Minnesota needs to get some take-a-ways if it has any shot to win the game and keep Floyd of Rosedale in Minnesota.

3. SPECIAL TEAMS: It has become apparent that special teams are important factors for the Gophers fortunes. Poor punts have put Minnesota in bad position, while a blocked punt helped seal a Gopher win earlier in the season. The Gophers would help their cause with a strong special teams game on Saturday.

4. HOPE IOWA HELPS: The Hawkeye defense has not been as good this year as Big Ten fans have been accustomed to seeing. There are yards to get against this Iowa group, including with the quarterback run. Iowa is last in the league in getting teams off the field on third down, so Gopher quarterback MarQueis Gray can play a huge role in this game if he can keep the sticks moving.

5. FUN ON THE PLAZA: We'll be broadcasting Saturday's game from TCF Bank Stadium, including the Gopher Tailgate Pregame Show with Kevin Falness live on the stadium plaza. Joining Kevin each week is Joel Maturi, a Gopher Coach of the Day, a former Gopher player, and more. It is entertaining and informative Gopher info for you to listen to on your way to the game or for once you're at the stadium. Hope you'll join us for the radio broadcast on the Gopher Radio Network presented by AlarmForce!
