Guest Entry: "Legacy"

Occasionally here on the official Golden Gopher Football Blog, we'll be featuring guest contributors, including Mike Ricci, editor and webmaster of the football program's official site --

Saturday, Iowa comes back to TCF Bank Stadium to attempt to reclaim Floyd of Rosedale. In the season finale last season, in what was no doubt the most dramatic game in stadium history, the Gophers shocked the then 25th ranked Iowa Hawkeyes 27-24.

Now, earlier this week, I attempted to interview Floyd and get his thoughts on the past 11 months. However, I ran into some issues with his publicist and the interview never made it to fruition (although I can tell you that Floyd was excited at the possibility of remaining in Minnesota--very excited).

So the next best thing was trying to find a way to sum up the importance of the Minnesota-Iowa rivalry. I began scanning through the University of Minnesota photo archives and noticed an extensive collection of pictures from the last ten or eleven years. The idea became a way to honor "those who came before" and took part in this storied rivalry.

In the end, a video that I think is both exciting and quite a bit different than anything we've featured on before. Our look back at the last decade or so of this rivalry.
