Fresh off their weekend sweep of UMD, the Gophers held media availability Wednesday with local reporters.

The first topic brought up, unsurprisingly, was head coach Don Lucia's three-year contract extension with the Gophers through 2014-2015; see video of what Coach

"We are off to a good start now and excited for it to continue," Lucia said. "I like our kids this year and I like the work ethic that we've shown. I think when you have a good group that you enjoy being around, you enjoy getting out there and help work with them to make them better."

Lucia also shared his thoughts on the upcoming series with Vermont. "The two previous years they were a frozen four team and the goaltender that is playing with them now took them to the Frozen Four. [Vermont] was picked to be in the middle of the Hockey East and we were picked to be the middle WCHA so it should be a good match-up."

The head coach also touched on the need for Goalie Kent Patterson to keep up his performance, improve fundamentals, and maintain the speciality teams stats in winning face-offs and utilizing power plays.

Sophomore forward Erik Haula also shared what it was like to beat UMD on their home ice.
"[The Bulldogs] were throwing high fives on their bench already with 40 seconds left... To score was great. And then the win in overtime just topped everything."
