2008-09 • REDSHIRT FRESHMAN SEASON: Overall Record: 17-16 Dual Meet Record: 7-11 Big Ten Record: 0-5 Pins: 1 Major Decisions: 3 Technical Falls: 2 Posted a 17-16 record at 174 lbs. • tallied a 7-11 record in dual meets • appeared in five Big Ten dual meets, going 0-5 • recorded one fall on the season, and never lost by fall • recorded two technical falls, and never lost by tech fall • won three matches by major decision • win total (17) led all 174 pounders • opened season with a 5-1mark at the Bison Open on Nov. 15, claiming third place honors and losing only to the eventual champion • earned a fall in his first match, a technical fall along the way, and a major decision in the third place match • went 3-2 at the Kaufman/Brand Elite • first loss came to eventual champion • went 3-0 on Nov. 29 as Minnesota swept through the Northern Quad, including a major decision it the shutout of Portland State • went 2-2 at the Las Vegas Invite on Dec. 6 • claimed a 5-3 decision in the New Years Day match with Oklahoma State • went 2-1 as Minnesota swept the Lone Star Duals, dropping only match by a 1-2 decision • earned a win in the opening match of the National Duals on Jan. 10, as Minnesota beat Buffalo.
2007-08 • REDSHIRTED: Put together a solid 19-6 record as a redshirt and won a pair of tournament titles wrestling at 174 pounds • Went 4-2 and finished sixth at season-opening Daktronics Open • A 3-2 performance was good enough for fifth at the Bison Open (11/10) • Recorded two pins on his way to a 3-1 record and second place finish at the Kaufman-Brand Open (11/17) • Defeated Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Joey Miller and took home his first tournament crown following a 4-0 showing at the Husky Open (12/8) • Jumped up to 184 pounds and recorded a pin over Norther Illinois’ Hamza Rashid to finish third at Flash Flanagan (1/5) • Recorded two pins at the Worthington Open before dispatching St. Cloud State’s Lucas Menkelwitz in the championship bout to claim his second tournament title of the year (1/19).
HIGH SCHOOL: Native of Tenstrike, Minn. attended Bemidji High School • earned all-state accolades twice during career at Bemidji, including a third-place finish at 171 pounds as a junior • 2004 USA Wrestling Greco-Roman champion (160 lbs.) at the Cadet level in 2006 • runner-up at same event in Freestyle competition • as a junior, finished runner-up at the 2006 Las Vegas Western Regionals in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle competitions • four-time state tournament participant • was undefeated senior season before suffering an injury that prevented him from competing in the state tournament • in addition to six wrestling All-Conference awards, also earned four more in football for the Lumberjacks.
