2007-08 • Freshman Season
Seized the team’s starting goaltender job during the second half of the season and posted the best single-season numbers in school history • played in five of the team’s first 17 games of the year, but played in 26 of the last 28 contests, including the last 24 games • set Minnesota’s single-season goaltending records with a 1.98 goals against average and a .930 save percentage • season goals against average ranked sixth in the country and save percentage ranked seventh nationally • both numbers ranked second among all freshman goaltenders behind Colorado College’s Richard Bachman • named the MVP of the WCHA Final Five, becoming just the second player from a losing team to win the award • in seven postseason games, had a 1.55 goals against average and .948 save percentage • became just the third freshman to be named Minnesota’s team MVP • also earned team’s Rookie of the Year and Playoff MVP honors • started the final 21 games of the year and posted a 1.75 goals against average and .937 save percentage with an 8-7-6 record over the span • did not have a shutout in 30 starts, though he allowed one goal in a game 10 times • played in 15 overtime games, stopping 69 of the 72 shots he faced in overtimes for a .958 save percentage • allowed more than three goals in a game just twice in 31 games this season, coming when he surrendered four goals in the NCAA tournament loss to Boston College (3/29) and a 4-4 tie with Wisconsin (2/23) • posted a .900 or better save percentage in all but six of his 30 starts • made a career-high 44 saves in both double overtime games of WCHA playoff series at Minnesota State (3/14-16) • twice named the WCHA’s Rookie of the Week, coming after he held Minnesota Duluth to one goal in each game of a win and tie (1/18-19) and when he surrendered a total of three goals in a win and tie against Alaska Anchorage (2/29-3/1) • had a memorable collegiate debut when he stopped 32 shots, including 21 of 22 third period shots in a 2-1 win over Ohio State (10/26) • earned his first letter.
