2008-09 • Sophomore Season
Started 36 of the team’s 37 games and played 89.4 percent of the team’s minutes in goal • posted three shutouts, including a 34-save performance in WCHA first round series clincher against St. Cloud State (3/14) • delivered a shutout with 21 saves in regular season finale at Michigan Tech (3/7) to seal a first-round home playoff series • had a 2.12 season goals against average and .923 save percentage at Mariucci Arena • owns a 1.49 goals against average and a .951 save percentage in 10 career postseason games, including a 1.23 goals against average and .959 save percentage in nine career WCHA playoff games • named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week on 10/28 after series at Wisconsin and on 11/18 after series against Michigan Tech • made a career-high 38 saves in first career shutout against Michigan Tech (11/16) • stopped 36 shots in win at Wisconsin (10/25) and 35 shots in tie against New Hampshire (11/7) • had the third-longest consecutive starts streak in school history snapped at 51 straight games in first game against Minnesota Duluth (2/27) • has been especially tough during overtime, allowing three goals in 21 career games for a 1.09 goals against average and .966 save percentage in 165 career overtime minutes • did not allow more than four goals in any of his first 49 career games • played 13 career games that have resulted in losses or ties despite holding the opposition to two goals or less • earned his second letter.

2007-08 • Freshman Season
Seized the team’s starting goaltender job during the second half of the season and posted the best single-season numbers in school history • played in five of the team’s first 17 games of the year, but played in 26 of the last 28 contests, including the last 24 games • set Minnesota’s single-season goaltending records with a 1.98 goals against average and a .930 save percentage • season goals against average ranked sixth in the country and save percentage ranked seventh nationally • both numbers ranked second among all freshman goaltenders behind Colorado College’s Richard Bachman • named the MVP of the WCHA Final Five, becoming just the second player from a losing team to win the award • in seven postseason games, had a 1.55 goals against average and .948 save percentage • became just the third freshman to be named Minnesota’s team MVP • also earned team’s Rookie of the Year and Playoff MVP honors • started the final 21 games of the year and posted a 1.75 goals against average and .937 save percentage with an 8-7-6 record over the span • did not have a shutout in 30 starts, though he allowed one goal in a game 10 times • played in 15 overtime games, stopping 69 of the 72 shots he faced in overtimes for a .958 save percentage • allowed more than three goals in a game just twice in 31 games this season, coming when he surrendered four goals in the NCAA tournament loss to Boston College (3/29) and a 4-4 tie with Wisconsin (2/23) • posted a .900 or better save percentage in all but six of his 30 starts • made a career-high 44 saves in both double overtime games of WCHA playoff series at Minnesota State (3/14-16) • twice named the WCHA’s Rookie of the Week, coming after he held Minnesota Duluth to one goal in each game of a win and tie (1/18-19) and when he surrendered a total of three goals in a win and tie against Alaska Anchorage (2/29-3/1) • had a memorable collegiate debut when he stopped 32 shots, including 21 of 22 third period shots in a 2-1 win over Ohio State (10/26) • earned his first letter.

Spent last season with the Indiana Ice of the USHL • head coach was Charlie Skjodt • posted a 19-19-5 record with a 3.31 goals-against average, an .899 saves percentage and one shutout last season • posted a 6-1 record in the playoffs • prior to joining the Ice, played one season for the Sioux Falls Stampede • head coach was former Golden Gopher Kevin Hartzell • led the Stampede to the league title and was named to the USHL All-Rookie Team • posted a 20-6-3 record, a 2.15 gaa and .930 sv% with three shutouts • his save percentage ranked second in the USHL, while his goal-against average ranked third • attended Rochester Century High School prior to joining the USHL • head coach was Bruce Frutiger • three-time Big Nine all-conference honoree • led the Panthers to the 2005 Class AA State Tournament where he set a tournament record with 50 saves in a 2-1 loss to White Bear Lake in the consolation semifinals • made 42 saves a night before in Century’s 3-0 loss to eventual runner-up Moorhead • named to the All-Tournament Team • owned a 23-4-1 record, 1.86 gaa and .937 sv% for the 2004-05 season • posted a 15-12-1 record with a 2.08 gaa and .915 sv% in his junior season • had a 17-9-1 sophomore year • selected with the 135th overall pick in the fifth round by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft • will become the first native of Rochester to play at Minnesota since forward Matt Leimbek in 2000-01.

Business and Marketing Education major • lists golfing and fishing as hobbies • lists reaching the state hockey tournament as a senior as his most memorable sports thrill • son of Keith and Kay Kangas • has three siblings • brother, Blake, played baseball at Wisconsin-Milwaukee and remained as a volunteer assistant coach • father, Keith, was National High School baseball coach of the year in 2002 and played baseball at Iowa State • born May 28, 1987.
