Briana Hassett, Pitcher

SEASON OUTLOOK/CAREER NOTES: Hassett established herself as one of the most accomplished pitchers in Gopher history with a record-breaking 2008 campaign, and the Gophers will depend on her for continued success this season. Although the Eagan, Minn. native was consistent last season, two key season highlights will dominate how the 2008 Gopher softball season will be remembered – a school record-tying 17-strikeout three-hitter against Dartmouth on April 24 and a remarkable 1-0 shutout in a 13-inning marathon against No. 25 Iowa in Iowa City on April 20. Her 276 strikeouts in 2008 were the third-most ever by a Golden Gopher hurler in a single-season. She also nearly doubled her career complete games total with 24 in 2008, including 11 shutouts. This season, Hassett’s success will be closely tied to that of the Golden Gophers as she splits the majority of the pitching duties with incoming freshman and Racine, Wis. native Alissa Koch.
