Minnesota junior Aaron Studt was named the Big Ten Conference Field Event Athlete of the Week on Monday, honoring his performance in the Snowshoe Open. The award is Studt’s first career Big Ten weekly honor during the indoor season, third of his Golden Gopher career overall.
Studt landed a career-best of 66 feet, 11 1/4 inches in the weight throw to finish second, but as the first collegian. The effort is an NCAA provisional qualifier and the third-best throw is school history. Studt’s toss ranks No. 2 in the Big Ten this season and within the top 15 in the country.
Minnesota heads to Penn State this weekend to compete in the Big Ten Conference Indoor Championships.
