Talented all-around player who made an immediate impact on the program in 2006 • uses his speed to make game-changing plays, both offensively and defensively • very competitive player who always finds a way to do something to help the team no matter what it is • was a First-Team NJCAA All-American at Iowa Central CC in 2005 • played for the Rochester Honkers of the Northwoods League this past summer, where he helped lead them to a championship.

2006 • JUNIOR SEASON:
batted .274 with 39 runs, 11 doubles, three home runs, 30 RBI and 14 stolen bases in his first season with the Golden Gophers • named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team after batting .444 with five runs, four RBI and two doubles in five games for Minnesota • had a .952 fielding percentage, which was the best by a Golden Gopher shortstop since Brent Gates fielded at a .953 clip in 1990 • He was only the fourth Minnesota shortstop to field .950 or higher since 1970 for Minnesota • batted .362 for Minnesota in the month of May with 10 RBI • finished the season on a seven-game hitting streak in which he batted .429 (12-28) with five runs and five RBI • second on the team in stolen bases with 14, second in walks with 27 and was third in runs with 39 • batted .357 in his first series as a Golden Gophers against No. 6 Florida State on Feb. 24-26 • went two-for-four with two runs, two RBI, a double and a stolen base in a 8-0 win over Notre Dame on Mar. 4 • reached base three times and was one-for-two with two runs against Illinois State on Mar. 12 • batted .300 with a two RBI in a series against Louisiana-Lafayette on Mar. 17-19 • knocked in four runs in a two-game span against eventual Big Ten Champion Michigan on Apr. 7-8 • hit his first home run at Minnesota at South Dakota State on Apr. 12, as he drove in three runs • reached base three times and went two-for-three with two runs against Northern Iowa on Apr. 19 • went two-for-five with two runs, two RBI, a double and a triple against Michigan State on Apr. 22 • went one-for-four with two runs and an RBI at Northwestern on May 5 • was three-for-four with two runs, a home run and an RBI against Ohio State on May 12 • went two-for-four with a run and two RBI against Indiana on May 19 • went three-for-five against Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament on May 26 • was two-for-five with a run in a win over Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament on May 26 that sent Minnesota to its sixth championship game in a row • went three-for-five with a home run, two runs, four RBI and two doubles in the first championship game against Michigan on May 27 • reached base twice, and went one-for-three with a run in the second championship game against Michigan on May 28.

IOWA CENTRAL CC (2004-05):
Named NJCAA First-Team All-American at Iowa Central in 2005 • batted .435, with 88 runs, 13 home runs, 48 RBI, 27 stolen bases, 24 doubles and had a .538 on-base percentage in 2005 at Iowa Central • led the team in batting average, runs, hits (87), doubles, total bases (158), on-base percentage and stolen bases • in 2004 he led Iowa Central with 53 runs, was second in batting average at .382, second in hits, second in home runs and led the team in stolen bases • the past two years in the Northwoods League, Lyons has 46 stolen bases • this past summer he also batted .285 with 52 runs, 37 RBI, six homers, 17 doubles and 14 stolen bases for the Rochester Honkers.

HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated from Century High School in Rochester, Minn. • high school coach was Keith Kangas • named All-State in 2003, and All-Conference in 2001-03 • led team to the State Championship in 2004 with a 24-5 overall record • also lettered three years in basketball as well.

PERSONAL:
Majoring in Communication Studies • son of Bob and Ann Lyons • list most memorable sports thrill as winning the 2003 American Legion World Series in Bartlesville, Okla. • uncle Bill Lyons played for the St. Louis Cardinals • this past summer his No. 10 was retired by the Rochester Honkers of the Northwoods League, as Lyons was presented with Mayor’s Award and received the key to the city • born August 21, 1984
