Talented pitcher who made 14 starts for Minnesota as a junior • enters his senior season as one of the top two returning starters on the Golden Gophers' staff • emerged as a reliable Big Ten starter for the Golden Gophers' in 2006, and was a big part of Minnesota’s trio of starting pitchers that helped Golden Gophers' post their lowest team ERA since 1984 and the highest strikeout total in school history • has a strong pro-type body with three pitches • drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 39th round of the Major League Draft in 2004 • reminds coaches of former Golden Gopher pitcher Craig Molldrem.

2007 • JUNIOR SEASON:
Went 5-1 with a 4.40 ERA in 77.2 innings with 39 strikeouts • limited opposition to a .276 batting average • had the best winning percentage (.833) of the regular starting pitchers last year • tied for second on the team in wins with five, was first in innings pitched, second in strikeouts and led the team in starts (14) • went 2-0 with a 5.56 ERA in Big Ten play in 34.0 innings with 20 strikeouts • picked up first win of the season against the Citadel, as he pitched 5.1 innings, gave up five hits, two earned runs and struck out two batters on Feb. 24 • pitched six innings, gave up six hits, two earned runs and struck out two batters against Iowa on Apr. 16 • picked up a win against Michigan State when pitched six innings, gave up six hits, two runs and struck out six batters • pitched a then season-high seven innings, gave up six hits, three runs and struck out four batters against Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament on may 26 • had his best outing of the year when it counted the most, as he pitched a career-high eight innings, gave up seven hits, , walked one and struck out five in 6-5 10-inning victory over No. 4 San Diego in the NCAA Regionals.

2006 • SOPHOMORE SEASON:
Third on the team with 13 starts, third with 77.1 innings pitched and finished second with 59 strikeouts • went 6-5 with a 3.96 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 77.1 innings pitched • was 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 44.1 innings of work in Big Ten play • finished fourth in the Big Ten in opponent batting average at .229 and tied for ninth in wins • in Big Ten play, he was second in the conference in opposing batting average at .211 • he pitched more then five innings in 12 of his 14 starts, and in those starts he gave up three or less earned runs in 10 of them • In his final three starts of the regular season, Brabender went 2-1, gave up just two runs in 17.1 innings of work for a 1.04 ERA and allowed just eight hits • held opposition to a .210 batting average (30-116) with the bases empty and a .259 averaged with runners on base • limited opponents to a .242 batting average (24-99) with two outs in an inning • In his second start of the year, he gave up four hits and three runs in five innings against No. 4 Nebraska in a tough-luck 4-1 loss on Mar. 5 • His next start, he pitched seven shutout innings and struck out six batters in a win over Illinois State on Mar. 12 • gave up just one earned run in five and a third innings, while striking out six batters to pick up a win at Missouri State in relief on Mar. 25 • had a no-decision against Big Ten Champion Michigan when he pitched six and a third innings, gave up three hits, two runs and struck out five batters • picked up his third win of the season when he gave up six hits and two runs in six and a third innings and struck out five batters against Iowa on Apr. 15 • had a tough-luck loss against Big Ten Pitcher of the Year Dan Brauer when he gave up three hits, one run and tied a career-high six strikeouts in five and a third innings against Northwestern on May 6 • pitched five and a third shutout innings against Ohio State on May 13, giving up just three hits to pick up his fourth win • picked up his fifth win when he gave up two hits and one run in six and a third innings, while striking out four batters against Indiana on May 20 • in that game, he had a no-hitter through five and a third innings (in a seven-inning game), before giving up a hit with two outs in the sixth inning • picked up a win in the Big Ten Tournament against Ohio State, as he pitched a career-high seven and a third innings, gave up eight hits, four runs and struck out five batters • with the win, he moved to 2-0 in his career against Ohio State • he also became the first Minnesota starting pitcher to win in his first career start in the Big Ten Tournament since Glen Perkins did so in 2003.

2005 • FRESHMAN SEASON: Made five starts and pitched in 13 games as a true freshman • all five starts came in Big Ten play, where he made seven appearances • finished 1-1 on the season with 27 strikeouts in 35.2 innings of work • made his first career start against No. 19 Michigan on Apr. 3, gave up three runs in 2.2 innings with two strikeouts • picked up his first career win against Northwestern on Apr. 24 when gave up three runs in 5.1 innings • struck out a career-high five batters, and gave up four hits and three runs in 5.0 innings of work against Purdue on May 1 in a no-decision.

HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated from Oregon High School in 2004 • high school coach was Darin Everson • his team lost in the state semifinals in his senior season • Oregon was regional champs in all four years Dustin was there, and won the conference championship his junior and senior seasons • Dustin was the District Player of the Year in 2004, as he went 10-1 with a 0.60 ERA and had 110 strikeouts • named First-Team All-State and First-Team All-District in senior season • three-time All-Conference (sophomore-seniors seasons), and was honorable-mention All-Conference in his freshman season • four-year letterwinner in baseball and hockey • made All-Tournament team in National Wood Bat Championships in Jupiter, Fla. with the Wisconsin Blazers • 260th ranked high school player on the Baseball America-Perfect Game High School Scouting Report list • fifth-ranked prospect and second-ranked pitcher to come out of the state of Wisconsin in this year’s senior class

PERSONAL: Major is communication studies • son of Jerry and Susan Brabender • his uncle Wayne Brabender played at Wisconsin • second-cousin Gene Brabender played five years in Major League Baseball, and played on the 1966 World Champion Baltimore Orioles • lists most memorable thrills as pitching in the state tournament and pitching at the National Wood Bat Tournament for the Wisconsin Blazers • born 12/11/85.
