The Minnesota baseball team (3-7) will host St. Thomas (2-0) at the Metrodome on Wednesday, Mar. 10 at 6:35 p.m.
Minnesota is coming off a week where it went 1-2 in the Dairy Queen Classic against Loyola Marymount (L, 3-4), Oklahoma State (L, 9-16) and Northwestern (W, 8-4). The Golden Gophers will host Harvard on Friday, Mar. 12 at 6:35 p.m., Creighton on Saturday, Mar. 13 at 6:35 p.m. and Sunday, Mar. 14 at 3:05 p.m. as part of the Metrodome Tournament. All four of the games this week will be available on audio and video in the Gold Zone. The Golden Gophers are led by AJ Pettersen who is batting .400 with nine runs, four doubles and five RBI. Junior Michael Kvasnicka is batting .333 with four home runs, 10 RBI and seven runs. Pitching wise, freshman TJ Oakes is 1-0 with a team-best 1.59 ERA and has six strikeouts in 11.1 innings. Scott Fern is 1-1 with a 2.19 ERA and a .227 opposing batting average. Seth Rosin is 0-1 with a 3.21 ERA, has 12 strikeouts in 14.0 innings and has not walked a batter this year. St. Thomas is 2-0 after sweeping a doubleheader against St. Scholastica on Sunday, Mar. 7. The Tommies are the defending 2009 Division III National Champions. Minnesota leads the all-time series 62-11, but lost 6-3 to St. Thomas at Siebert Field in the last meeting on Apr. 28. Following the four games this week, Minnesota will hit the road for a six-game road trip where it will face Alabama (Mar. 16-17) and Samford (Mar. 18-21). |
