Chuck Rey enters his first season as the Volunteer Assistant Coach for the University of Minnesota. Rey comes to the Golden Gophers after serving as an assistant coach for Georgia Southern in 2007. While coaching with the Eagles, he helped guide them to the 2007 Southern Conference Tournament.
During his time at Georgia Southern, Rey was also the Head Men’s Club Volleyball Coach. He took over in September, 2007 and implemented Sports Psychology, Biomechanics, Nutrition and Fitness Programs. Rey led the men’s volleyball team to a second place finish in the Fall Fest Tournament after they had gone winless in the tournament the previous year.
Rey also served as the Head Volleyball Coach at the Low Country Volleyball Club. In 2007, he led the club to a first place finish in the Gold Division during the Magnum Volleyball Classic. He also led the team to a second place finish in the Gold Division in the AAU Classic Tournament and in the Silver Division of the Peachtree Classic.
In 2006, Rey also led his team to a first place in the Power Division of the USAV Palmetto Region Championships. During his time with the Low Country Volleyball Club, he helped guide the team to a pair of AVCA Team Academic awards.
Rey was also the Assistant Volleyball Coach for a Bluffton High School, helping to lead them to a 2006 Region VIII Lower State Championship, a 2005 Region VIII State Runner-Up finish and a Regional Championship in 2004.
As a player, he was four-year setter for the Arizona State men’s club team, and helped lead them to a top 10 finish in the Club Nationals Tournament in 1994. Rey received his B.S. in Marketing from Roosevelt University in 1996.
