The University of Minnesota baseball team will hold the 17th annual Pro-Alumni & Legends Game on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 5:05 p.m. The Pro-Alumni Game returns after a two-year absence from the schedule.
On Friday, Feb. 5, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. there will be a dinner in the "M" Club Room at TCF Bank Stadium for alumni of the Golden Gopher Baseball Program. On the day of the Pro-Alumni Game, Minnesota will take the field at 2:35 p.m. and take batting practice at 2:55 p.m. The Pro-Alumni will take their batting practice starting at 3:45 p.m. The game will get underway at 5:05 p.m,. The Pro-Alumni & Legends team will be highlighted by current Major Leaguers Robb Quinlan (Los Angeles Angels 2003-09) and Jack Hannahan (Detroit, Oakland and Seattle). Hall of Famer Paul Molitor will serve as the manager for the Pro-Alumni Team. Former Golden Gopher Assistant Coach Herb Isaksson and former Major League Greg Olson (Minnesota - 1989; Atlanta 1990-93) will also be part of the Pro-Alumni coaching staff. Former players who will play in the Pro-Alumni game include Jeff DeSmidt (River City Royals - Frontier League), Nate Hanson (Minnesota Twins - A), Derek McCallum (Minnesota Twins - A), Tom Steinbach (Minnesota - 1980-83), Mark Groebner (Minnesota - 1996-98), J.T. Bruett (Minnesota Twins, 1992-93), Brian Raabe (Minnesota Twins - 1995-97; Seattle - 1997; Colorado 1997), Dan Wilson (Cincinnati, 1992-93; Seattle 1994-2005), Mike Mee (Minnesota - 2004-07), Matt Fornasiere (Minnesota - 2003-05) and Steve Huls (Minnesota - 1995-96). Also participating in the festivities will be Kerry Ligtenberg (Atlanta 1997-98; 2000-02; Baltimore, 2003; Toronto, 2004-05; Florida, 2006), Jim Brower (Cleveland, 1999-2000; Cincinnati, 2001; Montreal, 2002; San Francisco, 2003-05; Baltimore, 2006, New York (AL) 2007(), Cole DeVries (Minnesota Twins – AA), John Gaub (Chicago Cubs – AAA), Glen Perkins (Minnesota Twins), Reid Mahon (Arizona – AAA), Gary Perinar (Detroit - A), Kyle Carr (Minnesota Twins - A) and Tyler Oakes (Tampa Bay - A). Public may purchase tickets to the event at Gate F. Tickets can also be purchased in advance by calling 1-800-UGOPHER, or they can be purchased online at gophersports.com Last year’s Dugout Club award winners will receive their awards in between innings during the game.Minnesota returns 20 players who saw action from a 2009 squad that finished 40-19, finished second in the Big Ten regular-season at 17-6, advanced to the Big Ten Tournament Championship and advanced to the final game of the NCAA Regionals in LSU. |
